Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC)

Members present color-coded pediatric bags to their local EMS in support of the Junior Special Project.
The 2006-2008 Junior Special Project, EMSC, is an initiative designed to reduce child and youth disability and death due to severe illness or injury.

EMSC seeks to ensure that state-of-the-art emergency medical care is available for pediatric emergencies. The current need in North Carolina is to supply ambulances with color-coded bags to organize pediatric equipment in the vehicles; the bags organize and differentiate equipment sizes for children and provide dosage calculations through the Broselow System. This will result in improved care for children in emergency situations by saving time, reducing stress, and improving overall care. The goal is to ensure that nearly 700 ambulances needing bags in North Carolina are equipped with the color-coded emergency bags, which cost approximately $135 each. For more information about the needs in your community and how your club can get started, contact the GFWC-NC Junior Special Project Chairman.
